Going Down to the Beach Day

This year’s April 21st was March 3rd in Chinese lunar calendar.

It was the day of going down to the beach in Okinawa.

今年の4月21日は、旧暦の3月3日。

沖縄ではこの日に、「浜下り」という行事が行なわれる。

Traditionally, people, women in particular, go to the beach to cleanse their bad luck on this day.

Also, it’s one of the lowest tide in the year, and people go to the beach to pick shellfishes.

During this period, you can see things that you can normally see along the coast.

この日、特に女性は、浜へ行って身を清めるとされている。

また、この日は一年で最も潮が引く時期のひとつであり、人々は潮干狩りに行く。

この時期には、普段見られない風景が出現する。
