Sub-tropical flower of Okinawa: SAGARIBANA

barringtonia racemosa subtropical flower in black and white

Sagaribana or barringtonia racemosa is a tree can be found in tropical and subtropical regions, and you can only see it in the Ryukyu Islands inside Japan.

Its flowers bloom at night in this time of the year and fall off in the following morning.

An environmental group in Okinawa planted trees in various places in the city of Naha, and this is one of them along the street of Shuri, the old capital of the Ryukyu Kingdom.

This is the first time I’ve seen this flower. Although I cannot transmit its scent trough this photo, its fairly strong smell is as mesmerizing as the figure.
