In this time of the year, the streets of Kochi is filled with dancers from all over Japan, music of the Yosakoi dance, and the sound of NARUKO, a castanet like instrument used in the dance.
The Yosakoi Festival, originated from Kochi and one of the biggest festival in the city, is held from August 9th through 12th, just before Obon. The main dance event happens on the 10th and 11th around the city.
It is probably one of the best time of the year to visit the capital of the prefecture in the southern half of Shikoku island.
