The annual Naha Haarii dragon boat race will start tomorrow in the prefectural capital of Okinawa. The 3-day event is the biggest dragon boat races here in Okinawa. A large number of people from mainland Japan and overseas travels to the southern island to see the races.

Okinawa’s rainy season also starts around this time of the year, and sometimes the races have to be canceled due to the heavy rains. However, when it’s sunny, Port of Naha-shinko, which the Haarii races are held, turns to gold before sunset like in this picture made in 2014.

This year’s Naha Haarii Festival concludes on May 5th, and it is expected to be sunny on the 4th and the 5th.
